1 Second Angel 9 is an enigmatic artist who emerged within the era of digital media and social networks.
Through vivid colors and spontaneous gestures, the artist explores sensations and phenomena emerging between consciousness and the external world. Through physical acts of layering, rubbing, dragging, and dripping paint, images suggestive of figures, plants, landscapes, unfamiliar life forms, or subtle divine revelations emerge from the surface, only to dissolve once again into fields of color.
While the practice connects with a lineage of painting extending from Abstract Expressionism and automatism in its embrace of physicality and chance, the artist’s core process is not simply an expression of the unconscious. At its center is a distinct process of dialogue: responding to a single line, a color, or an accidental form, allowing each occurrence on the canvas to initiate the next gesture.
Moving continuously between figuration and abstraction, consciousness and the unconscious, chaos and redemption, 1 Second Angel 9 does not seek to reproduce predetermined images, but captures the moment when an image comes into being through the very act of painting.
