PROFILE

Guido Argentini is an Italian fine art photographer internationally recognized for his distinctive visual style.

Born in Florence, Italy, in 1966, Argentini developed a passion for photography at an early age. After studying medicine at the University of Florence for three years, he chose to pursue his artistic calling and dedicate himself entirely to photography.

Argentini’s work is highly regarded for its exploration of natural beauty, feminine sensuality, and the human body. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artistic expressions across eras and genres—including classical sculpture, Renaissance art, cinema, and contemporary culture—he creates distinctive images that are both timeless and imbued with a distinctly contemporary allure. In particular, a defining element of Argentini’s artistic expression is the profound influence of Helmut Newton’s visual world. Having begun his career as a fashion photographer, Newton rose to become one of the foremost photographers of women in contemporary photography, skillfully blending a distinctly European spirit with an air of decadence while capturing the female body and its sensuality through his singular aesthetic. Argentini’s strong inheritance of this sensibility is an important characteristic of his work. By fusing a classical sense of beauty with a contemporary sensibility, and sensuality with sculptural form, his work reinterprets the aesthetic he inherited from Newton through his own unique perspective, carrying it forward into the present day.

Another of his best-known works, Silvereye, is recognized as a highly iconic series in which the bodies of models, dancers, and athletes are coated in metallic paint, creating a striking presence reminiscent of sculptures cast in silver. This innovative approach transforms the human body itself into a sculptural form, earning international acclaim and opening up new possibilities of expression in contemporary art and nude photography.

His published books include Silvereye (2002), Private Rooms (2005), Reflections
(2007), Shades of a Woman (2010), Argentum (2013), and Eros (2018), each
offering a unique insight into his evolving artistic vision and distinctive aesthetic
language.

After living for many years in Los Angeles, Argentini relocated to Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, in 2022, where he continues to create new work.
